kya dekhtaa hai haath mera chhor de tabeebyaan jaan hi badan mein nahin nabz kya chale
یاںyaanیہاں (here)
In plain English
Why look at my hand? Let it go, physician; there is no life left in this body, so how could a pulse beat? The doctor of old felt the pulse at the wrist; the lover says love has already taken his life, so the examination is pointless.
This couplet is by Sheikh Ibrahim Zauq, from the ghazal “lete hi dil jo aashiq-e-dilsoz kaa chale”, Diwan-e-Zauq, with additional ghazals (1923), p. 120. It means: Why look at my hand? Let it go, physician; there is no life left in this body, so how could a pulse beat? The doctor of old felt the pulse at the wrist; the lover says love has already taken his life, so the examination is pointless.
