زندگی کی قید اور غم کی زنجیر دراصل ایک ہی چیز ہیں۔ تو موت سے پہلے آدمی غم سے کیسے چھوٹ سکتا ہے؟ یعنی جب تک زندگی ہے، کوئی نہ کوئی غم ساتھ رہے گا۔

The prison of life and the chains of sorrow are really one and the same. So how could anyone be free of sorrow before death? As long as we live, some grief comes with life.
یہ شعر مرزا غالب کا ہے، ان کی غزل «دل ہی تو ہے نہ سنگ و خشت درد سے بھر نہ آئے کیوں» سے، دیوانِ غالب (اردو)، نسخۂ برلن (1925)، ص 107۔This couplet is by Mirza Ghalib, from the ghazal “dil hi to hai na sang-o-khisht dard se bhar na aae kyun”, Divan-e-Ghalib (Urdu), the Berlin edition (1925), p. 107. It means: The prison of life and the chains of sorrow are really one and the same. So how could anyone be free of sorrow before death? As long as we live, some grief comes with life.
