In plain English
In the closing couplet (maqta) the poet plays on his pen name: “daagh” also means a stain or scar. The beloved wants to erase him and says, “Change your name, it has grown old.” Erasing a “daagh” is what one does to a stain, so the line is both a joke and a complaint about being cast aside.
This couplet is by Dagh Dehlvi, from the ghazal “le chalaa jaan meri rooth ke jaanaa tera”, Mahtab-e-Dagh (Dagh’s third diwan) (1893), p. 14. It means: In the closing couplet (maqta) the poet plays on his pen name: “daagh” also means a stain or scar.
