In plain English
The beloved is sitting happily in the rival’s company. Who could ever make you leave that gathering, the poet asks; getting you up from there would be like raising the Day of Judgement. The wordplay is on “uthana”: to make someone get up, and to raise up a calamity.
This couplet is by Dagh Dehlvi, from the ghazal “le chalaa jaan meri rooth ke jaanaa tera”, Mahtab-e-Dagh (Dagh’s third diwan) (1893), p. 14. It means: The beloved is sitting happily in the rival’s company. Who could ever make you leave that gathering, the poet asks; getting you up from there would be like raising the Day of Judgement. The wordplay is on “uthana”: to make someone get up, and to raise up a calamity.
