بالِ عنقاbaal-e-anqaعنقا کا پر (the wing of the anqa, a mythical bird)
In plain English
I have gone even beyond non-existence; otherwise, O heedless one, you would know that my fiery sigh has often burned the wing of the anqa. The anqa is a bird that does not really exist; the poet's sighs reach even what does not exist, because he himself has passed beyond being.
This couplet is by Mirza Ghalib, from the ghazal “dil mera soz-e-nihaan se be-muhaaba jal gaya”, Divan-e-Ghalib (Urdu), the Berlin edition (1925), p. 4. It means: I have gone even beyond non-existence; otherwise, O heedless one, you would know that my fiery sigh has often burned the wing of the anqa. The anqa is a bird that does not really exist; the poet's sighs reach even what does not exist, because he himself has passed beyond being.
