In plain English
Let understanding spread its net of listening as wide as it likes; the meaning of my speech is like the anqa, a bird no one can catch. The poet says his real meaning lies beyond words and cannot be fully grasped by listeners.
This couplet is by Mirza Ghalib, from the ghazal “naqsh faryaadi hai kis ki shokhi-e-tahreer ka”, Divan-e-Ghalib (Urdu), the Berlin edition (1925), p. 1. It means: Let understanding spread its net of listening as wide as it likes; the meaning of my speech is like the anqa, a bird no one can catch. The poet says his real meaning lies beyond words and cannot be fully grasped by listeners.
